Bioinformatics bootcamp
Twelve weeks from beginner to working analyst
Most people learn bioinformatics in fragments. A workshop here. A YouTube video there. Six months later they still cannot run a pipeline on their own data. This bootcamp fixes the order. You get six stages and a week by week plan and every course you need to finish it.
- 281lessons in the plan
- 12weeks start to finish
- 720+lessons in the full library
- 6certificates along the way
Who this is for
Biologists who never coded
You have a biology degree and a dataset you cannot open. Week one assumes you have never used a terminal. Nothing is skipped.
Students who need results this year
Your project needs RNA-Seq or variant calling and your supervisor cannot teach it. You arrive at week nine ready to run it properly.
People changing careers
You want a job in bioinformatics and you need proof you can do the work. You finish with pipelines you built and certificates you can show.
The twelve week plan
Each stage is a full course from our library. Follow them in this order and you never hit a lesson that assumes something you were never taught.
-
1
Weeks 1 and 2
Get your bearings
You learn what bioinformatics actually does before you touch a terminal. Databases and file formats and the shape of biological data.
Introduction to Bioinformatics & Its Advancements 23 lessons
-
2
Weeks 3 and 4
Live on the command line
Linux stops being frightening. You move around a server and handle large files and run tools without a mouse.
Linux Command Line for Bioinformatics 39 lessons
-
3
Weeks 5 and 6
Write your first real scripts
Python from zero through BioPython. By the end of week six you parse sequence files and search NCBI from your own code.
Python for Bioinformatics: Fundamentals 71 lessons
-
4
Weeks 7 and 8
Analyse and plot in R
R for the analyses your field expects and ggplot2 for figures that go into a manuscript without apology.
R for Bioinformatics: Fundamentals 53 lessons
-
5
Weeks 9 and 10
Run a real RNA-Seq pipeline
Raw reads through quality control and alignment and differential expression. This is the week people stop calling themselves beginners.
Command-line Based Practical RNA-Seq Data Analysis With Linux & R 57 lessons
-
6
Weeks 11 and 12
Call variants like a lab would
A full exome variant calling pipeline on real data. You finish with something you can describe in an interview.
Hands-on: NGS (Whole Exome Sequencing) Variant Calling Using Linux 38 lessons
What you can do by the end
Work on a server without help
You move around Linux and handle files that are too big for a laptop and run tools from the command line.
Write your own scripts
Python and R stop being somebody else's code. You write the analysis and you can read what other people wrote.
Run a full RNA-Seq analysis
Raw reads through quality control and alignment and differential expression and the plots that explain the result.
Call variants on real data
An exome pipeline from start to finish including the filtering steps that decide whether anyone believes your output.
Make figures a journal accepts
ggplot2 gives you control over every element so the figure comes out right the first time.
Prove it to an employer
Six certificates with verification numbers and real pipelines you can talk through in an interview.
One membership covers the whole bootcamp
We used to sell this as a bundle for $187.49. Annual All Access costs $199 a year and opens every course on the site rather than this one programme.
Annual All Access
$199.00per year
- The complete programme
- Every other course including single-cell and ATAC-Seq and drug discovery
- 720+ video lessons in total
- Certificates for every course you finish
All-Access Core
$21.74per month
- Stages 1 to 4 in full
- The core library of 450+ lessons
- Specialist courses are not included

Questions people ask before they start
Do I need any coding experience?
None. Week one begins with what bioinformatics is and week three installs your first terminal. Everybody on this plan starts from the same place.
Is this live or do I watch on my own?
You watch on your own and you move at your own speed. The twelve week shape is a recommendation rather than a deadline. Many people take four months and that is fine.
How many hours a week does it take?
Plan for about five hours a week to finish in twelve weeks. Two hours a week still gets you there before the year is out.
What happens after the twelve weeks?
Your membership keeps running and the rest of the library is already open. Single-cell RNA-Seq and cancer genomics and drug discovery are the usual next steps.
Do I get certificates?
Yes. Every course issues a PDF certificate with its own verification number when you complete it.
I bought the old bootcamp bundle. What now?
Nothing changes for you. Sign in and your course is exactly where it was with all your progress.
Twelve weeks from now you could be running your own pipelines
Or you could be exactly where you are today. The plan is written. The courses are ready. All you have to do is start week one.
