Summer Research Program
About Course

Introducing BioCode’s Summer Research Program on Genomics, an exciting opportunity to delve into the transformative world of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and RNA-seq analysis. These cutting-edge technologies have revolutionized genomics and cancer research, allowing scientists to decipher the complete genetic blueprint of organisms and gain valuable insights into diseases like cancer.
In this program, you will embark on a journey to unravel the mysteries of genomics and become a leading expert in cancer research. We have designed this comprehensive program to provide you with a solid foundation in bioinformatics, equipping you with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the field of genomics. Through hands-on exploration, we will delve into advanced techniques utilizing the R language, RNA-seq Analysis, and the identification of novel biomarkers.
Regardless of your prior experience with R and NGS, our program is designed to help you master RNA-seq analysis and develop expertise in Next-Generation Sequencing. You will have the opportunity to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in NGS, understanding how it is shaping the future of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Throughout the program, our team of expert instructors will be there to guide you every step of the way, ensuring that you receive the highest quality education and training. If you have any inquiries or require further information about this program, please feel free to send us a direct message, and we will be delighted to assist you.

A guided genomics research project in NGS and RNA-Seq
This programme runs as supervised research rather than a lecture series — roughly 9 hours 39 minutes of guided work taking you through a genomics project built on next-generation sequencing and RNA-Seq. The emphasis is on carrying an analysis from question to result yourself.
What the programme involves
- Framing the question — deciding what your data can actually answer before you begin analysing it.
- Obtaining and assessing data — locating a suitable dataset and judging whether its quality supports your question.
- The NGS pipeline — quality control, trimming, alignment and evaluating whether the alignment is sound.
- RNA-Seq analysis — quantification and differential expression between conditions.
- Interpretation — functional and pathway analysis, turning a gene list into a biological argument.
- Presenting the result — figures and reporting of the standard a supervisor or reviewer expects.
How this differs from a course
Our RNA-Seq courses teach the pipeline systematically, each step in turn. This programme is organised around producing an outcome: you make the decisions, including the ones with no single right answer — which samples to exclude, which threshold to apply, whether a result is strong enough to claim. That judgement is what distinguishes someone who has followed a tutorial from someone who can run an analysis.
What you finish with
A completed genomics analysis you carried out yourself, with figures and an interpretation you can present — useful for a dissertation, a funding application, or as evidence of practical capability when applying for roles.
Who it suits
Students needing research experience over a summer or between terms, early-career researchers preparing for their first sequencing project, and anyone who has completed training but not yet worked on real data. If you would rather learn the pipeline systematically first, our command-line RNA-Seq course covers it in full.
